Bicycle Third Party Liability / EPIO
(Light Personal Electric Vehicles)

The BICYCLE / LPMV LIABILITY program is an insurance product that covers the Civil Liability of a bicycle / LPMV towards third parties.

Clarification:

A bicycle (Article 2 of the Greek Road Traffic Code) is defined as a vehicle with at least two wheels that is propelled by the muscular power of the person or persons riding it and may be assisted by an auxiliary electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of 0.25 kW. The power of the motor is progressively reduced and ultimately cut off when the vehicle reaches a speed of 25 km/h or earlier if the rider stops pedalling.

Light Personal Mobility Vehicles (LPMVs) are vehicles powered by an electric motor that do not fall under the provisions of the Road Traffic Code. They include electric scooters, self-balancing scooters (hoverboards), and skateboards.

LPMVs are categorised according to their maximum design speed as follows:

  • vehicles with a maximum speed of 6 km/h: these are considered pedestrians and may move freely in areas designated for pedestrian traffic;

  • vehicles with a maximum speed of more than 6 km/h and up to 25 km/h: these are considered bicycles and are permitted to circulate on roads and in areas referred to in Article 1 of Law 2696/1999 (Government Gazette 57/A), “Ratification of the Road Traffic Code (RTC),” where bicycles are permitted to circulate;

  • vehicles with a maximum speed exceeding 25 km/h.
